What Agents Should Disclose?

I have spent the last several months really going over from what I have been hearing from my clients on our initial meetings. After a while what you hear does not come as shocking. Their are a lot of people who do not see a value in a Real Estate Professional nor do they think we are honest people.

As a young business owner this is something I am constantly analyzing for the simple reason I want to do whats right for the customer. Having the belief that anyone can make a difference one person at a time and we can all do our part to change the view that some have of us Real Estate Professionals. But the real question is why do people have this view of Realtors? If it were one or two people I could understand, in every walk of life there is always going to be something that people don't agree with. This on the other hand is overwhelming, and us in the industry have to look at why this is happening.

Before we start pointing fingers at the consumers lets look in our own house and do some house cleaning first. I will be the first to say that all Realtors are not the same. Within my local market place their are over 6,000 Realtors. How many of those Realtors do you think actually know what they are dong? How many do they think are trained on what it takes to sell a home in today's market? How many of them actually are full time and are fully committed to the job at hand?

These last few questions is where I feel the perception arises form. Lets be serious now, if you were buying or selling your home what you want someone who is Full-Time or someone Part-Time? Or more importantly wouldn't you like to know which one it was prior to getting involved with the agent? This is where I feel the situation can be approached differently, the agents can disclose to their prospective clients what your commitment is to working with them. Instead of just making all Realtors seem the same. Don't get me wrong I don't see anything wrong with part time agents. I believe it is a great additional revenue. But be honest with your client and outline your time commitment to them and the job you are going to be hired for. Set realistic expectations. I would love to see agents stop taking listings which they do not know how to sell or nor have the time too.

So my question is should Realtors have to disclose this information, wouldn't you want to share this with your clients? I believe all great relationships are built on trust and the realationships we have with our clients are no different.

Please let me know what the rest of you agents think?
